The Nanomedicine Revolution, Part 2
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Nanomedicine is a rapidly growing area of medical research that is focused on developing nanoparticles (NPs) for prophylactic, diagnostic, and therapeutic applications.1 The unique properties of nanomedicines offer potential solutions for many of the current challenges in treating cancer, cardiovascular, and neuodegenerative diseases, as well as other illnesses.1–7 Many nanomedicines and nanodiagnostics are already FDA-approved and on the market, and many more are in clinical trials.8,9 Currently, the most active areas of nanomedical research and product development are in cancer treatments, imaging contrast agents, and biomarker detection.8,10,11 Although many nanotherapeutics and nanodiagnostics are already in use, there are many barriers that impede bringing nanomedical products to market.10–12 However, despite these challenges, both large and small stakeholders are expected to continue to pursue research and investment in nanomedical applications, especially if they have novel properties, fulfill unmet medical needs, and offer a favorable cost–benefit outlook.12
